Despite good national economic indicators, social demands and employment tensions are impacting the Polish road transport sector. The sector is suffering from a shortage of drivers, which is hampering the development of transport companies. In response, these companies are reorganising themselves: offering certain bonuses, more frequent returns to base, and reducing the length of routes and mileage per driver. To remain competitive, companies are adapting by reducing other costs: better negotiation of leasing contracts and optimisation of semi-trailer use, for example. The fall in diesel prices is another factor encouraging them to seek savings.
